Frequently Asked Questions.
Where are you located at and do you provide in person sessions?
I am located in Yelm, Washington. At this time I provide virtual appointments on a HIPPA compliant video platform for most sessions. I do not have a physical office for clients to visit. However, some individuals need assistance with addressing anxiety in social settings or are in session for expressive art therapy. I do some exposure exercises with those particular clients’ needs by meeting with those clients for session in their home or community.
Adolescent clients can be seen in their homes. I work with parents or guardians to schedule in home therapy that best suits the teen’s needs. A private space such as a spare office while need to be available for session.
What is a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor?
A Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) is a clinician with specialized training that focuses on career counseling and disability. VRCs hold a graduate degree or post graduate education that is career counseling with a focus on work place accommodations, complex physical & mental health disabilities, clinical vocational assessments, general knowledge of ADA law, advocacy for disability-related barriers to employment, and much more. Many VRCs work in government agencies or private practice.
Depending on what state a counselor lives, some VRCs ( like me) have additional graduate training in mental health counseling and can hold duel status of a VRC and License Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
What is a License Mental Health Counselor/ License Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA/LMHC)?
A LMHCA/LMHC is a clinical counselor that has been issued license to practice psychotherapy in the state of Washington. LMHCA must practice under a state recognized supervisor for continued education in the field of psychotherapy. Most LMHCA meet weekly with supervisors to discuss treatment modalities and address clients’ needs.
LMHCA/LMHC can not prescribe medication and can only diagnosis and provide therapeutic counseling. A LMHCA like me, has to work with a LMHC on developing appropriate treatment plans for clients.
Do you take health insurance?
No, at this time I do not take health insurance. I am a LMHCA and most insurance companies have restrictions on accepting therapists under supervision. I do plan on boarding with a few insurance panels once I am fully licensed.
I do take Health Saving Accounts (HSA) that many employers offer employees as apart of their benefit package.
I live in a different state, can I utilize your services?
Yes! You are more than welcome to use my coaching services. I am not able to provide psychotherapy to clients that are not physically located in the state of Washington.
I live in a different country, can I utilize your services?
Yes! You are more than welcome to use my coaching services. As long as you are planning on working in the United States or US territories. I am not well verse on the labor market in other countries and would not be a well suited to help you explore the labor market in your home country. However, I am a great resource for understanding the United States labor market. Please, make sure to see a immigration lawyer for guidance on how to obtain a work visa. I am unable to assist in the legal realm.
How long will I need to be in therapy or coaching?
Therapy is different for each person as they journey in life. It ebbs and flows with what is going on with the internal self and being expressed externally. My goal is to make therapy as affective as can be within a reasonable time. Reasonable time is defined by you. Some clients spend only four sessions with me, as others spend several months addressing their complex emotions in the work place.
Coaching is more direct, because there is not a major focus on psychotherapy. Coaching clients spend anywhere from one session to three months with me. Depending on what the desired results you are striving for.
What modalities do you practice?
I think of modalities like painting. A painting doesn’t have one color on the canvas. Rather, it is a image made up of tints, tones, and shades of different colors. I utilize several modalities to create a custom therapy session for my clients.
I use Expressive Art Therapy, which I have a undergraduate degree in Art Therapy and continued graduate level education in Art Therapy. Motivational Interviewing, Reality based therapy, and some trauma informed cognitive based therapy is also dashed in session.
